Some URL shortening services support the forwarding of mailto URLs, as an alternative to address munging, to avoid unwanted harvest by web crawlers or bots. Unless you want to track URLs, you have no need to run to an outside website in order to make your URLs smaller, Twitter only counts links for a certain number of characters now. This means your URLs for blog posts will be instead of or something along those lines. Personally, I use Hootsuite for all of my Twitter’ing so I don’t have the need to go out and shorten it separately.
This is compatible with most web browsers and platforms as long as your bookmarks or favorites allow javascript. That may just be an oversight, but it tends to indicate that this isn't a promoted product and it probably does not have a long life ahead of it. Google which is a brilliant search engine decided to examine these numerous links and when its crawler discovered that the links were spam links it blacklisted the site and sent it into oblivion.
Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. My third choice, which was once my first choice, is Bitly.
Links shared on Twitter, including links shared in Direct Messages, will automatically be processed and shortened to an link. As a result, long URLs must be copied-and-pasted for reliability.
